How much does the civil service cost in Minas Gerais?

A plain-language diagnosis of the weight, value and reality of public salaries in the Minas Gerais state administration.

Leia em português

Much is said about how state civil servants are paid. But how much does a Minas Gerais public employee earn on average? Which sector or agency pays the most? And does the distribution of salaries in the State resemble that of the Minas Gerais labor market?

This diagnosis was built to answer these questions in simple, transparent language that any citizen can follow. The starting point is the payroll that the Government of Minas Gerais itself publishes on its Transparency Portal: more than 20 million payment records between January 2018 and August 2026. To compare periods safely, we analyze five reference months in detail (Nov 2018, Nov 2022, Aug 2025, Nov 2025 and Aug 2026), totaling about 2.6 million payments. In November 2025 alone, the Executive payroll paid about 560,000 employees, active and retired.
